I think that the article you are thinking of was one in the Journal of the
American Animal Hospital Association; Dr. Williams and Dr. Michael Scott
were co-authors. Assuming this is the one, there are a few options. The
American Ferret Association carried a brief summary about this a few years
ago, and you can read that on their website at:

http://www.ferret.org/pdfs/newsletter/101medical.pdf

This is an Adobe Acrobat file; note that you'll have to scroll down to
the second page to see the desired article.

I'm not aware of any place that has the full text of the actual article
online; if anyone knows someplace that has it, speak up!

Below is a citation and abstract from Pubmed. Your vet may have this, or
they will probably have a way to get it if they'd like to read it.
Alternatively, you can use this citation to find this in an academic
library, or to request the article from your public library through
interlibrary borrowing if there isn't a library nearby that carries it.
Generally, universites with vet schools would definitely have this
journal, and may with medical schools or significant interest in the
biological sciences may subscribe as well - just in case you have any
nearby. Most academic libraries are open to the public and will allow you
to photocopy articles.

Insulinoma in the ferret: clinical findings and treatment comparison of 66
cases.

Weiss CA, Williams BH, Scott MV.

Potomac Animal Hospital, Maryland 20854, USA.

The clinical signs and surgical findings were reported for 66 ferrets with
insulinomas confirmed histologically. All of the ferrets were treated with
one of three modalities, and disease-free intervals and survival times
were gathered to determine the most effective treatment. The three
treatment groups included 10 ferrets treated medically, 27 ferrets treated
with pancreatic nodulectomy, and 29 ferrets treated with pancreatic
nodulectomy combined with a partial pancreatectomy. The mean disease-free
intervals for each group were 22, 234, and 365 days, respectively. The
mean survival times for each group were 186, 456, and 668 days,
respectively. Based upon the data, recommendations were made for treating
insulinoma in the ferret.

I did find the following site/service that claims they will sell a copy of
the article for around $4. Registration is requried, and I do not know if
members of the public can register or if it more for DVM's. Maybe worth a
look; document delivery services come and go, and I have no experience
with this one, but many of them are *really* nice and can get things for
you in a very short period of time for a reasonable price...
