Hi,
My vet prescribed torbutrol (butorphanol) for Puff for pain. While
yesterday was a pretty exhausting day - several hours spent at the vet, or
travelling to/from - when I gave Puff .1ml of torbutrol she crashed and
was limp, uninterested in food / water, and barely responsive for several
hours. Puff needs to eat, as she's barely skin and bones now, and when
not on the torbutrol she seems to at least show interest in the food I
provide. The vet warned me that it could cause drowsiness, but I couldn't
find any mention in the archives of the side effects, and the length of
those effects, on ferrets. Can anyone who's used it pipe up? I only gave
her .05ml, yet she was largely unresponsive for about 7 hours.
Second, Pepto seems to work better for her gastric problems than
sucralfate. It's possible it helps her feel better because it has a
slight amount of aspirin in it (salicylic acid). Is it a problem to
switch her back to Pepto 12 hrs after giving her her last sucralfate dose?
Will it cause problems if I decide to give her a dose of torbutrol as
well?
Thanks,
Melissa
