I've used Torbutrol in the past, but in pill form. I've not seen it cause the reaction you saw, but in pill form it probably doesn't get into the system so quickly.

I think it's probably more important that Puff eats rather than being zonked out for pain relief. Perhaps your vet can give you something that's not quite so strong.
