Hi All,
I'm going to call my vet tomorrow to discuss the situation, but I'm wondering if we are truly at the max doses yet for Pred and Diazoxide for our little old lady, Maggie.
Maggie is about 1lb 5oz and almost 9years old. She has insulinoma and adrenal (on monthly Lupron) and was diagnosed with insulinoma a year and 4 moths ago. She has been gradually increasing on Pred and then we introduced diazoxide. Since she has a fast motabolism she gets both drugs 3 times a day (every 8 hours). Right now she is on .3 cc Pred 3mg/ml and .08 cc diazoxide 50mg/ml 3 times a day. Is this the max dose of both drugs?
My vet was saying that if things got bad, which they are starting to again (i.e. BG readings near the time of next dosage are averaging 55-57), that we should increase the pred but not the diazoxide. Aren't we at the top dose for Pred and the low dose for Diazoxide?
Maggie is also losing weight again and not wanting to eat. She was grinding so our vet prescribed .4cc Pepsid 5mg in 50cc Ferretone once a day and .25 carafate 15 min before eating. Which seemed to help for awhile. She isn't grinding, but is not interested in food nor ferretone. Are these side effects af all the drugs? Are we just at the end? She seems ok activity wise. Still get's into trouble and runs around (sometimes aimlessly which is when we do a BG reading) and seems to be enjoying life, although the old Maggie seems to not be there as much as she used to.
Thanks in advance,
Stephanie
