Understood. Were any of those reactions to the relatively new Merial
Purevax vaccine? If not, that may be a good solution for Odin.

My Nyssa had an anaphylactic reaction (almost immediate shock, collapse)
to a rabies shot when she was two. Our vet decided to give her
dexamethasone for three days prior to vaccination and both dexamethasone
and benadryl the day of the vaccination. This extended pretreatment has
allowed Nyssa to have rabies shots the past two years with no reaction
other than becoming sleepy.

There are ferrets who should not be vaccinated. Odin may be one of
them. I'm only suggesting that you run these idead past your vet to see
if he/she feels that one or both of them may allow Odin to be vaccinated
safely, which would protect him from any potential distemper risk posed
by the newcomer.
