Subject: Melatonin Question

I have a question about Melatonin. I have not been able to find this question yet. If I missed it in the archives then I apologize. My question is of course for the trained professionals we have here.

My research on the web tells me that Melatonin (or Lupron) is used to control the hormones that are being over secreted by the adrenal glands. And that in turn reduces or eliminates the clinical signs of adrenal disease. This treatment is NOT for the reduction of the adrenal glands or controlling the growth of any tumors.

The first part of my question refers to the enlargement of the adrenal glands and /or any tumors that might appear. Are these two caused by the disease or is the disease a result of these two physical problems? (Which came first, the chicken or the egg?) The reason for my question is, IF the disease is first, why can't we use Melatonin BEFORE hand to control the disease before it causes the two physical problems that require our fuzzies to go under the knife? And if this is a viable option then have any of the kibble makers looked into adding or raising the amount of Melatonin in the kibble that we buy? Now I know that no one here can speak for the kibble makers, but it does seem that members of this group have done a large amount of research into things regarding the health of our fuzzies and maybe someone has contacted one of the makers to see if they have ever done any research into this.

Just something that I have been thinking about.

Thank you for your time and happy dooking to all fuzzies.

Steve
