Hello,

We went back to the vet today due to the continuing pain problems. The vet
said Puff's stool wasn't tarry, but it was mucousy. She had no abdominal
pain when palpated, and didn't have a fever. She was alert and strong, but
displayed her lip-smacking/tooth grinding for the vet. My vet doesn't
suspect any sepsis or peritonitis (related to the surgery) due to Puff's
normal temperature and no abdominal pain response. She removed the
Torbutrol and Amoxi from the drug regimen, added Baytril, told me to keep
up the Pred and Sucralfate. Her best guess was just 'general GI
discomfort', possibly related to an ulcer, possibly pancreatitis, but she
didn't see anything specific. She didn't want to open Puff back up or do a
blood panel.

What are the symptoms of, and treatment for, pancreatitis? I can't find
anything online or in the archives that indicates how to treat possible
pancreatitis cases. The vet said prednisone.

For now, I will keep giving Puff Sucralfate 10m before feeding, .05ml
pred, and .2ml Baytril 2x/day. I've let her out of her hospital cage in
case any of this is related to overall boredom. :)

Thanks,
Melissa

(Puff is my 6yo female ferret who had a splenectomy and insulinoma removal
almost two weeks ago. Since then, she has been in alternating amounts of
pain, and has been very uninterested in doing any sort of ferret stuff.
Most recently she has been grinding her teeth after eating, seems to be in
a small amount of discomfort before going the bathroom, losing weight,
showing little interest in activities, and not eating her dry food. She is
quite strong and alert and eats the baby food/canned cat food that I give
her 5-7x/day.. She has been getting Sucralfate, Prednisone, Torbutrol,
Amoxicillin, and occasionally Pepto or Pepcid.)
