My Mom who is blind went into the freezer one day to make lunch when
Pierre
(our free roming ferret) snuck into the fridge and my mom closed him
inside.
We spent hours looking for him inside and outside the house but he was
nowhere to be found. No one could sleep that night and the next
morning we
were all out searching again. My mom was very upset because Pierre
and her
used to sit on the sofa together and were great buddies. A little before
lunch we opened the freezer and there was Pierre defrosting a few
pounds of
hamburger meat. He was fine except he couldn't go to the bathroom
until he
warmed up a bit so I know from my own experience that ferrets can take
the
cold with very little ill effects. The freezer is set at 25 degrees F.

I realize that a ferret, given proper shelter (blankets, etc), can stay in
fairly cold weather. In addition, I know its okay to let a ferret out in 50
degree weather or 45 degree weather for only a short play period (15
minutes)... but I dont know for certain if its okay to let them out there for
longer periods and to stay out in that weather and go in and out.
