Dr. Murray thank you so much for the information on this problem.

One of my problems here is that I don't know of anyone in this area to do
the surgery. Of the 2 vets that I use, both are good surgeons but I
hesitate on them doing this delicate of a surgery. In fact I believe one of
them doesn't have the equipment to do micro surgery.

There is another vet a couple of hours away & she is the one who did the
original surgery on this ferret. She now has a cryo unit but I know that
when she tried it on one ferret he died. I don't know how many times she
has tried it since then & was successful. I am in FL, (Gulf Coast) & if
anyone knows of a very good vet that has done the type of surgery necessary
(with success) in FL I would sure like to know about it. It is possible we
can get him to just about anywhere down here.

It sounds like a very scary surgery & I am so scared to put him through it.
What is the outlook if he doesn't have the surgery? I am just wondering if
he will live as long without it as with it. I had to argue with the vet to
do the first surgery because he looks perfectly normal, no hair loss, no
thinning, outward look is a healthy ferret.

I also have a female that had adrenal surgery just a few months ago & her
vulva still has not gone down, plus she has a slight discharge from it. She
only had her left gland removed & just last week had her first Lupron
injection. Reading the other persons post about their ferret & the response
that surgery is perhaps the best option in that case, am I right back with
her as I am with the male? Both need to have the right one totally removed?
Plus I have another mostly bald female that also had her left gland out
within the last few months ( it has been pretty rough here lately) & she
hasn't shown any sign of re-growth in her fur yet & lost energy & has bad
looking poop. She sort of "blew" up after her surgery, gained over a pound.
She was diagnosed with IBD & a hairball so large in her stomach that it
filled it up. She eats like a pig & I thought she was trying to make up
for lost time but I think if she gets any bigger she is going to explode.
Both vets said it was due to the pred for the IBD. Which is where another
question came in. One vet said that pred had more side affects than Imuran
(sp?) is this true? That vet said to cut back on the pred. She just went
back to the vet last week & he more or less dismissed my concern. In fact
she was taken to both vets because I felt that all is not right with her &
both dismissed her. So what do you do in a situation like this? I am
rather limited to ferret vets here.

What do you do when you feel there is a health problem but get dismissed by
vets? They "see" one thing & I see another.

Again thank you for any help you can give me.
