Red blood (frank blood) is from lower down in the GI tract while
black and tarry stools indicate digested blood. Digested blood quite
often indicates an ulcer. Ferrets commonly do a lot of tooth
grinding with this, too. If this is the case your vet will help you
out with Carafate or a similar bandaging medication. Should that be
needed there is now a liquid version which your vet can order from
any pharmacy for you. It goes in easier than Carafate in water.
