Subject: Simba, tumor in belly

Well, it seems after the passing of Samson that Simba wants to go as well. He has not been doing good for the last week or so, tarry stools, weight loss and lack of energy. Brought him to the vet on Monday and he said there were probably ulcers as the stool was almost black and that he had a lump around his pancreas area, quite large. I know for a fact that it has grown in a short period of time. About 2 years ago we had his spleen removed because he was losing weight and running a fever and it was extremely enlarged. At that point they also found a carcinoma by his pancreas in the fatty tissue. They removed this.

It looks like this lump is growing the the same location. An x-ray was done and it didn't seem to have gotten to his lungs yet, but the tumor would have to be removed, if at all possible. The only thing is that we believed that he was not up to surgery.

So, we have him on Amoxy, the bitter stuff used for ulcers (and ECE and helio) and pepto. He seems to have regained a little energy and was eating some babyfood, but he is eating less again now. I am not sure what to make of it, but we will have to force him otherwise. So, we are hoping by next week that he will be a little more ready for surgery. At that point the vet will open him up and see what is happening with him, and hopefully the tumor can be removed. If not, then I need to think about what would be best for Simba since he already isn't doing to good now.

Anyone had any similar experiences with tumors like that?

Thanks
