HOI Stephanis- Since thies is a gal- I would pose for you this scenario-
gals pee & deficate at the same time the straining for defication may
indeed be what is the problem. My elder gal ( now departed exhibited the
very same syump[toms whining while defecating and tenderness to the belly.
She had IBD. You may want to check with your vet- see if they may try a
regimen of compounded of Chloramphenicol - to try to help the symptoms of IBD.

In retrospect I would not let another gal of mine suffer the same as the
previous one did. If it hurts to pass stool then they are not going to
want to eat-- the quality of life seems to be greatly diminished if this is
where she is headed.

Hope these hints help determine your gals problem.
