I've got my friend's ferrets here at the moment, Zac is a 3 year old neutered hob who slowly went off his food end of last week. I saw him Saturday and he'd lost a lot of weight rapidly and was thin but today I got a real shock when I saw him and he's just skin and bones. Won't eat, if I'm lucky I get him to eat 2 mouthfulls of ground chicken and then he'll spit everything out after swallowing some. Just now he started heaving/ gagging after his 2 mouthfulls of chicken but didn't bring it up. Isn't even tempted by Ferretvite. He looks so fragile and weak and I'm scared. I took him to the vets today and he got a shot of dexamethasone (sp?) and Synulox and 60ml of sub Q fluids. He has very inflamed gums but I don't think they're bad enough to keep him from eating. I know it sounds like a blockage but was wondering if it could be anything else. He did pass a tiny poop earlier today but nothing since. He's going back to the vets first thing tomorrow morning.
