Hi,
I have a ferret that was surrendered through the club I am in,
and adopted out about 3 weeks ago. He is 3 years old, Male.
He was fine as far as I could tell the time with me, and up
until Friday was doing well at his new home- he went with 2
of his cagemates.
Friday evening he was found collapsed in his litter pan, exam
revealed a big mass in his abdomen near his right kidney.
An aspirate of it came back today as lymphosarcoma.

He has been with me since all of this and he is much much
better on sq fluids 40cc a day and supplemental meat baby
food and kibble. I think the fluids are making the difference,
but not sure.

The vet gave some options. One is a full blood panel and
if he has no signs of end organ damage, start chemo at
every 3-4 week injections - I didn't get the name of the med.
He suggested a full body ultrasound to see what organs
are involved and follow size, but I think that is moot. The size
is palpable and is visualized on x-ray and even if all organs
are involved, I think if the labs are o.k. the treatment
options remain the same.

Next, just give prednisone and no other treatment.

I think I should stop the sq before the blood tests, just
in case it will mask a kidney problem- but will ask the vet.

Anyone can tell me how their ferret did on chemo with lympho-
sarcoma in the abdomen? And what chemo?
I think Lisa just posted about 10months now, can you
e-mail the details?

I just want to make the best decision for this ferret, the new
owners are wanting to do the best also, but not sure they
can handle it knowing the ferret is terminal- which means
I may be caring for him ( although I know he will
be better off with his cagemates at the end)

Thank you,

Patty K
