Chocolate Moose had a partial pancreatectomy Friday. His right adrenal was
slightly enlarged but the vet did not remove any of it (his left was
removed a few years ago). The vet also did an intestinal biopsy at my
request because of several recent bouts of diarrhea. Path results won't be
back for several days. Today (Monday), I had his blood glucose checked and
it was up to 126 (vs. 37.7 before his surgery). His bruises are healing and
are nearly gone.
The problem is, he's still very lethargic and I'm really starting to get
worried. Today, the vet suggested giving him Pepto-Bismol, which I did, but
it doesn't seem to be helping. His stool this evening was seedy, light to
dark brown, with a little bit of dark liquid around it. I feed him chicken
baby food four times a day and supplement it with Nutrical. I try to get
him to drink water flavored with Ferretone but he doesn't seem very
interested in it.
My question is, what else could be wrong? Should I be giving him
Kaopectate? Pain reliever? Antibiotic? Pred? I've never had a ferret take
so long to feel better after surgery except for Lucky Charm after her
fourth partial pancreatectomy right before she started having seizures.
Usually, ferrets want to run around within a day or two of surgery. Plus
Moose just looks so tired and I'm worried about him.
PLEASE help us if you can.
Thanks.
