Puff's recovery from a splenectomy and insulinoma removal took a very long
time. It was three weeks before she was no longer lethargic and started
eating well on her own, begging for attention, etc. In her case, it is
likely she had/has an ulcer, and the irritation to the pancreas added to
her discomfort.

My vet mentioned that she used low doses of pred to help prevent
pancreatitis post-insulinoma surgery. Both of the ferret vets at the
clinic suggested that irritation to the pancreas can cause a longer-term
surgery recovery, and a general feeling of 'ick'.
