Remember that allergies not only differ among individuals in terms of what that individual is allergic to, but they also differ in degree. For example, a piece of potato which is a treat for one human is going to cause hives in another, and will send yet a third in a mad ambulance dash to the hospital tryign to survive. It's the same with ferrets. Some ferrets just are so allergic to pine in any form or degree that they will be hard to save if they are exposed, just as Dr. Ruth's little one was.
