Three weeks ago I took my three ferrets and 2 fosters to the vets. My 3
needed their annual shots and the fosters had an unknown history so we were=

getting their shots too. My oldest ferret (6 y/o MF) didn't receive his
because of a rapid heartbeat and suspected cardiomyopothy. He will be havin=
g
an untra sound, xrays and blood work next week.
Scooter (5 y/o MF) has had his shots every year without incident. This time=

he had a reaction within seconds. He displayed all the classic symptoms,
vomiting, rapid breathing, bloody stools and lethargic. The vet administere=
d
all the standard shots and oxygen. By evening of the same day he was fine.
He seemed to have no ill affects. Merlin (4 y/o MF) had no reaction at all.=

The foster kids had just the rabies with no problems . Yesterday I took the=

2 fosters (3 1/2 y/o MF) in to complete their shots. They both had their
distemper shots. The first to have his had a reaction after about 10 minute=
s
It was really bad. He had an injection site reaction that is still bright
red today and he has what looks like hives up one side of him. The second
one's reaction didn't happen for about a half hour. His didn't seem quite a=
s
violent as the others and today he is just fine.

Because the vet had 3 severe reactions from the same lot she pulled the
entire lot that they had on hand and contacted the manufacturer. She is
filling out incident reports on all 3. =

My question is....could it just be coincidence or is it possible that the
lot she had is that bad? That was 3 severe reactions out of 4 !! If it is
the vaccine what was it that caused such a violent reaction? I think if I
hadn't stayed in the office 2 of them could have died. This is a good
example as to why you should wait at least 45 minutes at the vets office.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.
