Today Butch had exploratory surgery. The purpose was to debunk his pancreas
and to find out if he was adrenal. Prior TN panels showed normal hormone
ranges, ultrasound showed nothing out of the ordinary however bald feet, hair
loss at the base of his tail, bald feet and all the other classic signs had
us convinced he was adrenal. A complete blood chem ran prior to the surgery,
everything normal.
And the results are...
Removed of one "huge" and one "large" node from his pancreas which were sent
out for analysis.
Adrenals described as "atrophied." Much smaller than normal.
Vet also found a yellow "mass." He said he'd only send this once before. He
thought it could be a part of the adrenal gland, almost an offshoot of it.
This was also removed and sent out.
His stomach lining was greatly inflamed and red. This is after 11 days on
Biaxin (1/4 tab once per day)
I don't understand what is wrong and really have no idea what this yellow
thing is. The vet really felt the TN panel was either wrong or Butch was one
of those ferrets with normal panels even though they are adrenal.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm at a total loss and I think the vet is also. I
wonder if the "atrophied" adrenal is the reason for the hair loss etc.
Help!

We have had some success washing the head and face of ferrets and baby kittens (who have no mom) with a soft toothbrush and gentle soap. It combs out the stuff that is close to the skin but under the hair. They don't like it much but we perservere until we are done. Sometimes it takes a couple of days and a few different trys to get it all (what ever it may be!!) out of their coat and off their skin.

Hope it helps :)

Unfortunately, I can not get rid of the cow manure/urine/who knows what smell on their heads and faces. Does anyone have any advice on how to wash their entire heads without getting soap stings in their eyes or too much water in their ears? I am unfortunately allergic to animals, but after having so many ferrets I am not allergic to them anymore. But whatever it is in these new boys coats is giving me major hives and major allergy attacks when i pet them. So I need to get rid of it ASAP so I can breathe again!!! If anyone has any advice on how to go about giving thier heads a good scrub, please let me know. Thanks so much. Ann
