I read in a ferret newsletter an article written by a vet about using
petroleum products to prevent hairballs. I have always used pure
vaseline, and my ferrets always lapped it off my finger. The vet
mentions that vaseline or mineral oil that have no taste may not be
swallowed, that they could be aspirated into the lungs causing
pneumonia. Since I read that, I've been putting some vaseline on my
finger and mixing in a drop of ferretone before offering it to Nexus.
If the ferret eagerly laps pure vaseline off my finger, is there any
danger?
