Fozzie is a 6.5 year old gib with cardio, IBD and adrenal. He currently gets .04 ml of lasix Q 12 hours and monthly Lupron shots. His diet is Science Diet I/D and W/D kibble and soup consisting of canned I/D, turkey baby food and canned pumpkin.
I also add Pet Tinic, Nupro, slippery elm and CoQ10.
I wanted his values checked before starting him on enalapril. Here they are:
ALB 4.39 G/DL HIGH; RANGE 2.6 -3.8
ALKP 19 U/L NORMAL
ALT 62 U/L LOW; RANGE 82-289
AMYL 73
BUN 46.4 MG/DL SLIGHTLY HIGH; RANGE 10 - 45
CA 8.37 MG/DL LOW NORMAL
CHOL 115.2 NORMAL
CREA 1.10 MG/DL HIGH; RANGE .4 TO .9
GLU 115.9 LOW NORMAL
PHOS 8.81 BORDERLINE NORMAL-HIGH
TBIL 5.92 VERY HIGH; RANGE .1 - 1.0
TP 9.36 HIGH; RANGE 5.2 - 7.3
GLOB 4.97 HIGH; RANGE 1.8 - 3.1
Na 164.1 NORMAL
K 5.79 NORMAL
Cl 122.9 NORMAL
I've done some checking and to me it looks like his kidneys and liver aren't so great. Since enalapril can cause further kidney damage, I'm afraid to chance putting him on it. Are the benefits worth the risk? What I do know is either the cardio or organ failure will probably take him, so do I do nothing, or do I treat the cardio? Which will buy me more time?
Thanks,
Dodie
