On Wednesday, my 3-4 y.o. NM ferret had a tumor removed from his left ear
(only under iso, returned home in a few hours). The pathology report came
back Friday listing it as a hemangiosarcoma.
Mid-day Saturday, I found him in his usual sleeping place severely
dehydrated, his underside covered in urine, very weak with sticky gums. I
met his vet at the clinic. His BG was low. She gave him subcutaneous fluids
and dextrose and a steroid injection. She fed him some Nutri-Cal and sent
the rest, and some A/D, home.
This was about 12 hours ago. I have been syringe feeding him (rotating
between Nutri-Cal, A/D, chicken gravy, and baby food) every few hours.
Although he is better hydrated now, he doesn't seem to have improved much
otherwise. He gets up every 45-60 minutes and I let him out of his crate to
defecate (mostly liquid). However, as far as I can tell, he hasn't urinated
since I found him. I would expect him to urinate a lot after the amount of
subq fluids he received, and am growing concerned. He is also grinding his
teeth.
Does this sound like most insulinoma crashes? Should we suspect something
else is going on to cause the sudden stop of urination? And if so, what?
Thanks for any suggestions,
xxxx
