Hi Patty,
An enlarged spleen is common in older ferrets.
It is responding to other illnesses usually. It can
also be cancer (lymphoma, etc), and other problems.
If it is big enough to cause problems then it is time
to take the spleen out. Most ferrets do well without a
spleen. Of course check the pancreas, adrenals, liver,
and lymph nodes, etc when removing the spleen.
