Subject: Possible Abcessed Tooth

I was checking my ferrets the other day and noticed that one of them has what appears to be an abcessed upper incisor. His gums are swollen and very red around that particular tooth. I have Baytril (injectible) on hand and would like to know if it is alright to give him a couple of shots a day to get rid of the infection before I take him to a vet (I have yet to find a ferret knowledgable one anywhere near me). Is there a solution of some sort I can mix up to rinse his mouth out with or perhaps use a Q-tip with good old hydrogen peroxide on it? The tooth itself is grey in color around the base but not chipped. Any advice would be appreciated as I simply do not trust the vets in this area for very good reasons. If I can deal with this on my own I rather do so myself. -- Di
