Hi All,

Firstly, I want to give a little background to this siruation, so you will =
see why i'm confused about these signs.
I live in England UK - the days are short, cold, dull and often wet. Also =
we are nowhere near the start of the breeding season.

I have a young jill, estimated age at around 5 months.
She is eating well, beautiful thick winter coat, very active and looks the =
picture of health.
She has had the musky smell for several weeks now, but this last week, has =
gotten stronger.
I looked at her vulva earlier today and it is getting larger. I also notic=
ed a small amount of clear discharge. She has all the signs of *coming int=
o season*
She lives indoors, but is not exposed to a lot of artificial light. Her ca=
ge is covered with a thick, dark coloured blanket and she only gets full li=
ght when she's out of the cage (aproximately 4 hours each day) when she is =
allowed the run of the house. Evenings and during the night, her cage is c=
overed fully and the rest of the time her sleeping area is covered.
Taking these facts into account and also that it's in the middle of winter,=
I am shocked that she would come into season so early!
I have had experience with 3 other young jills living indoors, over the las=
t few years and none of them came into season, before they were spayed arou=
nd January/February time.

I wondered if there could be any other reason for these signs. Perhaps an =
infection?, but then, would she still have the musky smell that is associat=
ed with being in season?

I do intend to take her to the vets for a check-up, but wondered if anyone =
here might shed any light on this.

Many thanks
Carol
