Subject: Flu? Food Poisioning?

My 6 1/2 y.o. insulinomic/adrenal ferret has had a
miserable night. From 1 AM to 5 AM, every hour he has
been violently dry-heaving for several minutes, then
had a very liquid bowel movement, then was "fine"
until the next round. Around 1:15 AM, I *did* try
giving karo, nutri-cal, and baby food, all of which
were refused -- but I did get some karo in his mouth
anyway. However, this does not seem like
insulinoma-induced nausea, and he was completely
"there" during the whole thing- no spaciness or
seizures, etc.
By 5:30 AM, the dry heaves seemd to have stopped. He
just wanted to sleep. At 6 AM, I gave baby food
again, but he really was not interested -- took 4 or 5
"fingers" full, and just didn't want any more. The
bowel movements have a terrible sulfur odor, and are a
brown to grey color.
We are on our way to the vet's momentarily. This to
me seems like proliferative bowel he had last April
(same smell) but the vomiting is not the same. I was
wondering if perhaps somehow this might be flu
symptoms or perhaps some food poisioning? He acts
like a human with food poisoning. I am sure he will
get fluids and chloramphenicol. Just wanted some
advice since his is in othewise pretty delicate health
and I think finding the problem fast is pretty
important.
Thanks in advance
Melissa
