Subject: Vomiting episodes now resolving

yesterday I posted about Mishka's continued vomiting
episodes followed by liquid bowel movements...our
vet's opinion was that his intestines were agitated
(perhaps due to bacterial overgrowth as a result of
eating nothing but baby food for a solid year), and
that when the bowel has very strong contractions like
that, then the stomach will sometimes also contract
causing the vomiting.
She gave fluids, a shot of tagamet, and started him on
Flagyl, for the anti-inflamatory properties as well as
the antibiotic effects. He is much improved, although
today at lunch he did have an episode of dry heaving.
His stools are more normal looking and when roused, he
is active and fairly bright-eyed.
I have asked for a refill of carafate (which we
discussed at the visit) to further aid his stomach,
and help him to eat. He seems to want to eat, but in
only very small amounts (even though it's all baby
food). If this does not help, I will see about
getting him more regular shots of tagamet -- boy, he
really perked up after that! On the way home from the
vet's office, he was alert and actually fairly feisty
-- it's been a while since he was that perky. :\
I wish I knew what triggered this episode. I realize
it's the "unsolvable" IBD debate, but there is clearly
something going on with him in the
intestines...complicated by the insulinoma and adrenal
problems, probably. If anyone has any blinding
insights, please feel free to share.
Thanks,
Melissa
