Dear Jodie:

While there is not a lot of info here, the vomiting and mucousy poops are suggestive of ferret coronavirus, also known as ECE. This is a viral infection of the intestine, and there is a lot of information on it in the archives here, as well as on my web page at http://www.afip.org/ferrets. Realize that I am basing this relatively off-the-cuff diagnosis on your description of mucousy stools and other less specific GI signs. I would also consider the posibility of a concomitant GI ulcer.

In this little guys case, I would suggest fluids to relieve the dehydration and resultant lethargy, as well as a bland diet fed frequently to try to keep him going.

With kindest regards,

Bruce Williams, DVM
