Dear friends,
My little Oscar had surgery for insulinoma almost a year ago. His BG never
improved. Stayed in the 50's. He wasn't on meds, we gave him supplemental
feedings until about three months ago at which time we started him on 1/4 of
a 5mg tab twice a day. We did this because we noticed his head bobbing. Two
weeks ago he had a seizure. We upped his pred dose to 1/2 5mg tab twice a
day. My questions: His seizure consisted of him going totally limp, eyes
sunken, jaws clamped shut and I couldn't hear or feel his heart or chest
rise. We had gotten a little karo into him before his jaws clamped shut and
we put a little more on his gums. Several seconds later he took a little
breath and came around. Gave him the baby food. Took him to the vet, that's
when we upped the pred dose. Is this typical of a seizure? His BG was in the
40's, a week later, in the 50's. Now, we notice him shaking really bad. When
he gets up which I know can happen, but it continues when he snuggles into
his bed for a short time. Could he be that cold or is this a seizure sign?
The temp in the house is about 70-71. Next, what is the half life of pred?
Does some remain in his system or is it completely gone 12 hours later? Do I
continue to give him supplemental feedings even with the meds? I have been.
Last, we are considering another surgery. Just had bloodwork done. Has anyone
else had a more successful surgery the second time? In other words, his first
surgery didn't help with the BG levels. Might the next?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help us.
Sincerely,
Tiffany, Oscar, Slinky and Cindy
