I'm so very sorry for your loss. What a terrible way to go into Thanksgiving. I lost my Punky Doodle on Thanksgiving eve 5 years ago.
Sadly, sometimes these things happen, though it has nothing to do with her being a small animal. Many, many ferrets go through major surgery with no problems. Some don't make it for a variety of reasons and sometimes one really doesn't know what happened.
I wouldn't let this keep you from giving another ferret a wonderful, loving home.
