Dear Debby,
I used to have a ferret, Scout, that chewed cloth as well, particularly any
expensive fabric that I left laying on the floor. I don't suspect that it was
from boredom, because she only did it when she was out of her cage,
and there was plenty of other ferrety things to do. She was never a biter.
She only developed the habit prior to developing insulinoma, and I
suspect that this was the reason. When they get insulinoma, they can
get nausia and grind they're teeth...and she always used her far back
teeth when chewing the cloth. So it has been my suspicion that she did
it out of nausciousness, but this is not based on any facts, whatsoever. I
learned to be a bit tidier out of fear of an intestinal blockage. Happy
Thanksgiving! Jen, Jude and Finnegan
