Cloth eating is a listed as a common behaviour problem in cats (know
as
Pica). In cats it has been suggested that it may be due to nutritional
deficiencies, boredom, stress or being weaned too early.

As (in cats) its mainly due to boredom then try new toys and more
company.

One of the suggestions was to remove all possible fabric but if they still
chew at sofas etc then plain undyed cotton should be provided as this
will
do them less harm if eaten.

This is only what I can vaguely remember.... from a long time ago. But
cats
books should have more information in.

Hope this helps.
