Are you sure they are deer ticks? When I was in southern Wisconsin one of my boys loved to run out on the grass and through the driveway culvert. Often I would find a tiny tick on him. I sent some to the state entomologist who identified them as a species that lives on ground squirrels (chipmunks) so although I certainly removed them I didn't worry about Lyme disease.

I am now in Tucson, AZ. No grass by my place. They only run out on the enclosed patio.
