Subject: Another reaction

I had another reaction today..this makes for my worst reaction year - 4
total. The last 2 were reactions to Merial's purevax. The ferret in question
is 15 months old with a known history of vaccinations (he's my personal
ferret that I have had since he was 10 weeks old). His shots last year were
with Fervac-D.

I premedicated him with oral children's benadryl - 0.4cc (he weighs more than
4 lbs) a half hour prior to his shot. Vaccines were handled according to
manufacturer's instructions. He began vomiting 25 minutes after the shot was
given. He went to the vet and he is fine now after treatment.

Given that the cost of Purevax is more than twice Fervac-D($40 vs $17 for
boxes of 10), and the reaction rate with Purevax in my particular case has
actually been worse than with Fervac-D(2 reactions in 20 shots vs 2 reactions
in 160+ shots), I am discontinuing the use of Purevax. It is no less likely
to cause a reaction in my opinon than Fervac-D and I can't justify the cost
difference.
