Subject: Lupron & Insulinoma (Lupron Causing Low BG?)

Hi All,

It's me again about my female sable Maggie, 9yo with insulinoma 1 1/2 yr and adrenal 2 years. Maggie has been getting monthly lupron shots for her adrenal and has constantly had problems with bg even on diazoxide and pred. Her BG would stabalize then she would have a low bg episode about once a weekand was generally very lethargic even when her BG was stable at around 70-80. We were really thinking about euthanasia because she was so lethargic and up and down.

Well, last month I was a very bad mom and forgot her Lupron shot, but thought I had gotten it (so many vet visits they start to run together). So she went a month without it.

Interesting finding is that her bg has totally stabalized on her pred and diazoxide. She is much more active, alert and even is back to "asking" me for stuff (she comes up to me and puts her head on my foot then runs to what she wants - usually kitty kibble which she only gets once in awhile). She has also began eating much more and being hungry more often. The bad part is she is losing her hair again and I think she is wasting because she has been losing weight even though she is eating more.

I am planning to get her Lupron shot but thought I'd ask here before we go to the vet to see what you all might think. Is this a case of life quality before quantity? Or maybe the lupron is too strong? I will definately talk to my vet about this, but wanted your thoughts also.

If you could, please email me directly at steph@cosmicglue.com as I do not often have time to check the FHL.

Thanks in advance,

Stephanie
