I just ran into a vet who has been reading that the amoxi-biaxin
protocol has a much higher relapse rate than the amoxi-metro protocol.
I don't know the references myself, but thought I would throw it out
there as something to chew on.

I'm treating one of mine for helicobacter right now with
amoxi-metro-tagamet. I previously treated him with
amoxi-biaxin-sucralfate but didn't get a good resolution. Anyway, I
have found a great way to give him the metro - no fuss at all.

Use the pill form, not the liquid.

What I do is break the pill down into tiny chips and feed him those
with a little bit of Nutrical. (Put a dab of Nutrical on your finger
and press it into the pill chips to pick them up - you don't even need
to make sure the chips are covered.) It goes right down and my Kodi
never even flinches. I don't even have to hold him to dose this way.

It's important that you *do not* crush the pill. If you powder the
pill and mix that into the Nutrical, they *will* taste it. I already
tried that one with him. Instead, just make small chips. The last
one I did broke a 250mg pill into about 60 chips, which makes for 6
chips per dose for the 25mg he is supposed to get. Breaking the whole
pill into small chips at the start is easier than trying to cut 10
equal pieces out of it, and ensures that you're going to get a more
even dosage at each feeding. The small difference in the size of the
chips tends to average out.

Instead of Nutrical, you could use Nutrimalt, Ferretvite, or whatever
paste suits your fancy. Thick chicken "gravy" or baby food may work
too. Try to avoid Ferretlax, Laxatone, Petromalt, or similar hairball
remedies though, since these may coat the pill chips and prevent
uptake of the medicine.
