Subject: Losing Fur around Head

A few weeks ago we took in a young female who is now losing fur in
tiny (1-3mm) patches around her face, head, chin, neck, breast, and
forelegs. Her chin and left leg are particularly affected. The skin
in the affected areas appears to have dark, clogged pores, though not
nearly as pronounced as tail blackheads we have seen in others. (The
pores have dark orange-red to black heads, but are still flush and are
not inflamed.)

Both of our vets are baffled and don't know what to make of it. We
did a skin scraping for demodex, but that came up negative.

She had a minor case of ear mites when we took her in, but she has
received two treatments of SC ivermectin for that, as well as 14 days
of Tresaderm for concurrent bacteria.

She also went through a partial coat change on her back right after we
took her in.

She did show marked pruritis, particularly around the head, for the
first couple of weeks and overgrooming behavior on the leg. These
symptoms seem to have lessened, though I can't be entirely sure of
that. Otherwise she appears healthy.

She was unvaccinated other than the initial farm CD, but that is being
taken care of now.

She came in with two others who are not showing these or any other
symptoms.

Does anyone have any hints on what to look for? Would Pyoben/OxyDex
or Revolution be appropriate for her? If the latter, what is the
recommended dosage?

Thanks.
