Hello Roger,
From your description it sounds like 'mange' to me! I had a ferret that came to the shelter several years ago and tried to treat for ringworm as nothing showed up, the problem got worse. Then we treated for mange(doesn't always show up in a scraping) and finally she improved.
The problem had progressed so it took about 4 months for a completely new coat to grow in and she never looked back. However whilst we were in the process of trying to find out what was wrong, other ferrets became infected with the mange also, even though not caged together, but in the same room, so do be careful. I am sure that those ferrets with good strong immune systems will not succumb, but those that have impaired immunity might well contract the mange.
Shampooing frequently in CHLORHEXIDERM, seems to work, not sure about Revolution, I know it works for earmites but then you have already treated for that. In the book by the Australian, FERRET HUSBANDRY, MEDICINE & SURGERY he mentions treating for
Demodex, I think that is the only reference I have seen--Angela
