Subject: Diabetic ferret didn't make it

Squiggle passed away peacefully last Saturday. He had been on insulin for only a week before developing ketoacidosis again. We raised the dose by half a unit and the ketones went down, but his poor body couldn't handle it any longer. I found him gone in the early morning hours, apparently from heart failure. The vet performed a necropsy and found his right adrenal the size of a grape but no other obvious problems. If any of the vets here are interested, I have his adrenal gland in formalin. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has any theories about adrenal problems and diabetes or if there is any sort of research going on in that direction.
