Subject: Mishka: Flagyl Forever!

Well, Mishka visited our vet today for his monthly
lupron shot, and we discussed his tummy/bowel
problems. Since about a week after he finished with
the flagyl (ended Nov 29), his symptoms have gradually
started to come back. The odor came back to his stool
about December 7, and on December 14, he started to
have those weird abdominal contractions again when it
was time to eat. His appetite has also been spotty --
sometimes he'll eat 3 jars a day, sometimes just under
2 jars (of baby food).
We feel that, since his symptoms have been escalating
steadily since his course of flagyl/ metronidazole was
completed, he probably needs it on a long-term
(possibly permanent) basis. Our hypothesis is that he
has some sort of weird bacterial population in his GI
tract, and that his other illnesses are causing some
sort of shift in his natural biochemistry that makes a
good home for these bacteria.
We are going to try 0.1 cc (ml) once a day, where the
0.1 cc is a 250mg/cc concentration.
I will let you know how it goes. The poor guy is
going to *hate* me! But it will be worth it if he
will just eat kibble again!
