Subject: Staining in older male

I am a fairly new student of ferret health. I adopted an older male (age
and other medical history unknown). Vet felt he was quite healthy other
than cataracts and gum disease. We have started him on Amoxi-drops for the
gums. His poops are normal and he eats pretty well. He is a little thin,
but has kept hydrated (I have been feeding him duck soup daily and put
electrolytes in his water). My question (finally!) is regarding staining
from urine...the vet was not sure why it is happening. She said that the
amoxi will help if it is a urinary infection. Is this typical in geriatric
males? Is there anything else that is known to cause this (and if so, what
are the treatment options)? Could the richness of the duck soup be causing
this....such a shock to his system after being poorly nourished?
Thank you in advance for your help!
