Hi,
One of my ferts, Merlin, is having a recurrent infection. He is about 4 1/=
2 years old. When I first adopted him about 3 months ago, I noticed he had=
a clear watery discharge from his penis. It also looked a little inflamed=
and swollen. I took him to work (I'm a vet tech)and we realized he actual=
ly had pus coming from it. We did a urinalysis, which came back with an sl=
ightly elevated WBC, trace of blood, and some crystals. He went on Amoxidr=
ops, and he responded very well, and the infection cleared up. As soon as =
he finished the amoxi, I saw the watery discharge come back again. Then th=
e pus came back. We took a culture of the pus, and it came back negative, =
no growths. He went on amoxi again, but took longer to respond. Same thin=
g again..pus gone, finish amoxi, watery discharge again, now pus again! My =
vet seems to have done all she can do at this point. Does anyone have any =
ideas, or know of another ferret knowledable vet (I am in Hudson County, Ne=
w Jersey). Merlin is healthy otherwise. He licks that area quite a bit tho=
ugh. If I did not give enough info, or not specific enough, let me know, an=
d I will bring his lab sheets home. Thanks in advance!
Natasha and Merlin
