Subject: Hershey is very sick

Hershey has gotten very sick over the last week. He is 7 and has had ADV for
3 years, and so I am used to him having good and bad days. But, when he
didn't pull out of his slump, I knew we needed to see the vet. He is
apparently starting into kidney failure, and I was wondering if anyone had
any suggestions.
After a full exam and a Super Chem and CBC workup, the only thing wrong
(other then ADV) was the kidney values. I don't have the values here yet,
but both his BUN and Creatinine are both up above normal levels. The SG of
his urine was 1022 yesterday, which my vet feels is borderline low. His
Phosphorus was normal, but my vet says it usually stays within normal limits
until there is about an 85% loss of renal function.
We are going to try getting him on a lower protein diet. He has stopped
eating kibble, but has been eating baby food willingly. Since that is
probably too high in protein, we will try mixing it with KD. I will be
picking up a can to try later, and at that time I will also get a copy of the
blood work results, so if anyone wants to know specifics, I can post them
later. Currently, Hershey is getting Imuran to try to lower his
gammaglobulins, but no other medications. Any suggestions on other things to
try would be appreciated.
Danee
