Subject: strange things on xray

Drs:

I have a ferret, Buster who is 5 years old and was exhibiting fairly classic
signs of cardiomyopathy - wheezing and chronic cough, along with some
lethargy. We brought him to the vet and did a cbc (all normal limits) a
heartworm test (ruleout - and was negative) and xrays.

The xrays showed a normal heart but a shadow on the xray on one lung with an
obvious airway. He was placed on clavamox for two weeks. Yesterday we went
back to the vet and did a recheck of his blood and another set of xrays as
his symptoms have persisted. Blood was again all within normal limits and the
xrays showed the same spot - no larger but no smaller. The shadow is
directly to the right of the heart but obviously on/in the lung. He is now on
Baytril which he hates with a purple passion - and it doesn't help that since
he's a large ferret, his dose is fairly large as well (0.5cc 2x a day).

Is there anything that we are missing? If the baytril doesn't work, he is
going back for another round of xrays and a biopsy of a lymph node. Doc
doesn't believe it is feasible to biopsy this without surgery and we are
hoping it won't come to that.

The wheeze/cough he makes sounds fluidy if that makes sense. It is not a dry
cough.

I must mention that Buster is Diana's sibling - and she has been undergoing
chemo for lymphoma for more than a year (doing exceptional and now on the
every 4 weeks treatment).

Thank you to all of the Veterinarians on this list for the contributions of
your time and knowledge. I hope all have a very happy holiday season!
