Hi, Mare,

If he's otherwise healthy, surgery is always the best way to go for
adrenal *provided* you have an experienced ferret vet who has a good
rate of success. Surgery cures the disease. Lupron does not. Five or
six is not too old for surgery. Podo was about seven and a half when he
had his right adrenal gland removed (right is more difficult than left),
and he's still bouncing around and playing at age eight. He also has a
beautiful coat.

The tumor on the tail is a different issue, and one I haven't had
experience with. Others can probably tell you what it's liklely to be.
If it has to be removed your vet could probably do both while he's
under, meaning you'd only have to put your ferret through the trauma of
surgery once.

Anyway, if there wasn't some good medical reason to skip the surgery
that's what I'd do with one of mine.

Good luck!

All the best,
Caity and the non-stop nine
