Subject: creatinine levels in kidney failure

Dr. Williams wrote, "I do get concerned by creatinines over 1 to 1.5,
because in ferrets with end-stage renal disease, about the highest that
you will ever see is a 3, as compared to other species which often go
much higher than that."
When my vet ran blood work on Chance after he did not recover from
insulinoma surgery, it showed kidney failure. The creatinine was 10.5
and the bun was 180. So, is it possible to see a higher creatinine
level than 3 in final kidney failure? He was euthanised that day after
being on fluids for 2 days with no improvement. The numbers ran about
the same. He was only 3 years old. My vet ran two tests two days apart
and both creatinine levels were over 10. Just wondering why his was so
high.
