I believe that hyperthyroidism is pretty rare, if not unheard of, in ferrets. In my experience with cats, hyperthyroidism causes them to have a ravenous appetite, but they continue to lose weight even though they eat and eat. Since you don't indicate this type of appetite, and it being unreported in ferrets, I believe it is safe to rule out hyperthyroidism.

It could be summer weight loss. A vet visit is definitely in order and until then, we're just guessing.
