Subject: Re: Booger's blood values

Russ:

Essentially the ones that are concerning is the level of lymphocytes. While leukemia is rare in ferrets, the lymphocytes are pretty well elevated, so much that there is a total elevation of the white count. Anything over 10,000 is abnormal.

I don't mind if there are more lymphocytes than neutrophils, which is common in older ferrets, especially those with chronic GI disease, but when they result in an increased white count, it is something to at least monitor regularly.

Let's go ahead with the surgery, but I would want to recheck the values again in 3-4 weeks.

With kindest regards,

Bruce Williams, dVM
