Subject: Update on Pam (7 yr old) on Prednisone

Pam has been on prednisone, 1/2 teaspoon 2 times a day, for 2 weeks and is doing very well. I think her lymphnodes have gone down, her itchy scaley skin has cleared up and she has gotten a huge appetite - even climbs out of her cage when I am preparing her food. She has a teaspoon of gerber baby chicken food with the 1/2 tsp of pred. first and then both ferrets, Pam and Melissa get about 1/8 cup wet mushed Marshall food combined with a whole jar of chicken baby food with a drop of ferretvite.
Both ferrets look wonderful - considering. Melissa (who had gastric ulcers after adrenal surgery) has gained over 1/4 lb and now weighs 37 oz. Pam too has gained weight, about 80 grams to a whopping 760 grams.
***Question - how long can Pam be on Prednisone? Do I have to take her off at some point? Also, is too much baby food unhealthy? The 2 of them are averaging 2 1/2 jars a day total. They seem to be thriving on it and don't mind feeding them 3 - 4 times a day (while keeping dry kibble in the cage at all times) but the cost of the baby food is adding up! Approx. 75 jars a month @ $.90 = $65+ not including the Marshall food and the prednisone - another $30/month.
