We had had some early ones we waited on so that the growth was more readily obvious on surgery, but when we have seen marked symptoms very rapidly, or the ferret's smell has changed, or the ferret is showing strong sexual behavior, or there is a potentially dangerous symptom like a change in the ability to urinate then we gone for urged rapid surgery.

As a non-vet with two decades of ferrets the only thing I can say that's definite is that individuals vary so you have to go with your own personal take on the ferret and a vet's expert opinions. If still unsure you can seek a second vet opinion.
